Player Watch: Jhoulys Chacin

This guy could pick you up a key win down the stretch

For those of you looking for deep, deep sleepers, look no further than Jhoulys Chacin a RHP for the Rockies. Last night in his season debut, he went 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB and 7 k. Pretty solid. Although he has a relatively small sample size (1-1, 11 GP (2 GS), 19.0 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 14 BB, 22 K, 2.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP), his strike out numbers are pretty good. He does have the tendency to walk some guys, but if he can harness his control he could be gem on the waiver-wire.

He makes his next start against the Dodgers.

  1. TreTrain, nice post, I was thinking the same thing

are we looking at a legitimate Rockie Mountain pitching resurgence?

did ya’ll see that Ubaldo? I’ve never seen such a good hitter (Adrian Gonzalez) look so late on a ball

seriously, if you haven’t seen the highlights, check them out- he hits 100

  2. Dave's Co-manager

good timing for this post, guys.

dave (yes the one and the same) and i are co-managing a team where we have been suffering from the mess that is gavin floyd….

another disappointing outing tonight (6.1 IP, 6ER, 13H, 2BB, 2K, and a soon to be L) against the hapless royals, no less. too bad he couldn’t begin turning around his season a la Peavy last night (fingers crossed).

So this has lead me to the crossroads of the drop button. The question, as always, for who?

12-team mixed 5×5, best available (to my eyes):

    whatever to do?

Dave, you can answer this now that i’ve posted on your blog.

  3. Dave's Co-manager

additionally cecil is available. forgot to mention that.

Go with Gorzelanny. Great start coming up and he’s finally healthy. The other 3 are worth watching. I like LeBlanc in the NL West and especially in Petco but need to see more. Chacin needs to show me more as well. I mentioned what I thought about Cecil in the previous post. He’s worth keeping an eye on but not a roster spot in most leagues. yet.

Gorzelanny has the experience and you basically know what you are going to get with him so he is safe.

But I LOVE LeBlanc at Petco and in the NL West. Take him right now and then pick up Chacin and drop LeBlanc when the Padres stop playing well. LeBlanc will probably fade down the stretch, with the team not scoring runs and being out of the race. Chacin on the other hand will have a lot more experience and will be in the excitement of a play off race and has an offense that can get him runs.
